"The Wings of a Pixie"
On the shimmering wings of a pixie you glided into our hearts and lives
Awakening the spirits running with our souls along the sunflower garden,
giggling as the sprinkles of light sparkle in our eyes running with the wind
just a carefree spirit on a search for the tambourine man playing his song to
bring you home

Brooke’s story is a combination of
Christi Metcalf’s account of the last time she saw and spoke with Brooke, and
the original police report taken by Lt Hendricks of the Travelers Rest Police
Department.
The original police report is NOT on this site due to the fact the case is
still an open case, the sensitivity of the content in the report and respect of
privacy of individuals named in the report.
On July 03, 1999 Brooke Henson had a few friends over for a party. The
July 03, 1999 party was Brooke’s first party without her parents, says Christi
Metcalf. As her friends began to leave the party Brooke and her boyfriend
(Rickey Shaun Shirley) had an argument. Brooke went outside to sit on the front
porch to clear her head, while waiting for the arrival of her parents from a
concert in Charlotte, North Carolina. Brooke’s parents, and Christi and Joey
Metcalf arrived at the Henson residence around 2:00 AM .
Brooke was sitting on the front porch, she told them (family) she and her
boyfriend (Shaun) had been arguing, and that's why she was out on the front
porch getting some fresh air and clearing her head. The last to leave the party
was Billy Robin (Bingo) Shirley, (the cousin of the boyfriend) and his
girlfriend. Brooke told her mother Kathy "I’m getting out of here", Kathy told
Brooke that "it was too late to be out", Brooke told Kathy "I’m not going
anywhere, I’m just messin’ with Shaun". After a verbal dispute with Shaun in her
bedroom, Brooke left walking in an unknown direction. It is reported she was
going to Willis’ to get a pack of cigarettes; the last time Kathy spoke with
Brooke she did not seem to be upset. They said their good nights and everyone
went to bed. Brooke set out on her own, walking to Willis’ store to get a pack
of Marlboro regular (red) cigarettes. Willis’ store is approximately 2 blocks to
3 blocks from the Henson residence.
Brooke disappeared between the hours of 2:30 AM and 2:43 AM on July 04, 1999 .
According to police report, Lt. Hendricks of the Travelers Rest Police
Department arrived at the Henson residence on Henderson Dr. in Travelers Rest,
SC on July 05, 1999 at 0925hrs. As stated in report, Shaun Shirley spent the
night at the Henson residence sleeping all night in Brooke’s bed. Shaun stayed
at the residence until he received a call form "Greg" and left the residence at
0930hrs on July 04, 1999 in a white pickup truck. Kathy found a note written by
Brooke on Brooke’s bed "I’m walking, follow me if you care". Kathy contacted
Brooke’s friends, which they had not seen her, but were currently looking for
her at the time of the report. The report was completed at 10:00 AM on Monday,
July 05, 1999 by Lt. Hendricks. The report was taken approximately 31 hours
after Brooke was last seen.
At the time of her disappearance she was wearing dark green shorts, tan
tank top, black sandals, silver watch on her left wrist, silver bracelet on her
right wrist and the rest only the person with information to Brooke’s
whereabouts will know.
The local authorities (Travelers Rest Police Department) did not start a
search for Brooke until three weeks after she was first reported missing, says
Christi Metcalf. Christi said, "The case was handled as a runaway case",
delaying the search for Brooke costing her and the Henson family valuable time.
Brooke at the time of her disappearance was 20 years old, which is too old to be
a runaway; at least that is my opinion.
On June 23, 2002 I was contacted by Lori a representative from the DOE
Network concerning a white female matching Brooke's description found murdered
July 20, 1999 in Sampson County , NC . I relayed the information to Christi
Metcalf. Christi contacted the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, the investigator
she spoke with told her it may take several days to several weeks to have the
DNA run. It has been over a month now since the first conversation with the
investigator in NC, still no word. Christi called the Sampson County Sheriff's
Office back a couple of weeks ago, she was informed the DNA had been sent to
SLED, and SLED had turned the DNA over to Travelers Rest Police Department,
meaning the case is back in their hands once again. Travelers Rest Police
Department is the same law enforcement agency that dropped the ball in the
beginning.
Per Investigator Brazier: "The dental records
clearly determine that the person in NC is not Brooke. More determiners were
used than just 1 cavity. DNA samples have been submitted and tests done and
results in a SLED report indicated the sample submitted could not have been a
biological child of Cathy and Martin Henson."
On Monday,
February 12, 2007 Martin Henson, Christi Metcalf, Tammy and Patrick Welch met
with Investigator Clark Brazier and Chief Lance Crowe with the TRPD. We are
confident Investigator Brazier as well as the rest of department are doing
everything in the power to solve Brooke's case.
We still have questions, but those will have to wait until a further meeting.
